The debate regarding gerrymandered congressional districts has increased since the state of Texas advanced its redrawn map this month. The effort began after the Department of Justice sent a letter stating it would "seek legal action against the state" over the "unconstitutional racial gerrymanders" of the previous map. Some state legislators, who fled the special session called by Texas Governor Abbott so there would be no quorum, returned to Texas after arrest warrants were issued and their direct deposits for legislative income were suspended. The newly drawn maps have been approved, which gives the current majority five more seats. |
