Secretary of State Marco Rubio is concluding his trip to Israel and will join the president in Asia tomorrow. After Israel's parliament gave preliminary approval for the annexation of the West Bank, President Trump said, "Don't worry about the West Bank. Israel's not going to do anything with the West Bank." He has previously indicated that the U.S. would withdraw support if such action were taken. During his visit to Israel to support the progress on the peace agreement in Gaza, Secretary Rubio said, "We feel confident and positive about the progress that's being made. We're clear-eyed about the challenges, too." "If Hamas refuses to demilitarise, it'll be a violation of the agreement and that'll have to be enforced," the secretary of state said. "Hamas cannot govern and cannot be involved in governing the future of Gaza." |
