The federal government is in a partial shutdown after the Senate separated Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding from the package previously approved in the House of Representatives. The lower chamber is preparing to vote on the details of the remainder of fiscal year 2026 appropriations, with DHS to be temporarily extended while that agency's final funding is negotiated. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he expects the adjusted package to be approved. He stated, "I don't understand why anybody would have a problem with this... Remember, these are the bills that have already been passed; we're going to do it again." |
