Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "The Cuban people are the hostages of a brutal and repressive government which disregards their safety and prosperity to advance the Castro regime's true purpose: serving as an outpost for our adversaries and exporting radical left-wing violence and terror across our hemisphere." The State Department also announced, "The United States is targeting a sophisticated network that has smuggled hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of Iranian liquified petroleum gas (LPG) to markets in South and East Asia. This network used front companies in the United Arab Emirates and China, along with Iran's shadow fleet of vessels, to disguise Iranian-origin fuel and circumvent U.S. sanctions." The president's administration is also sanctioning an Iranian currency exchange house and its operators. |
